How long have you been with us?
I’ve been with CEM just over 2 years. In my new position as Development Engineer it demands a plethora of skills daily, some of which I have delved into during my career in previous job roles and some that are completely new to me.
I believe this previous experiences as a maintenance engineer in the aerospace sector for over a decade and a relatively short spell travelling as part of a well-established F1 team have laid the foundations to my technical understanding and have certainly helped me have a rolling start, however I still have a way to go, which adds to the enjoyment of the role.
The skills that I have most critical to this role that I had very little understanding of (and that I’m subsequently attempting to grasp whilst progressing projects) are most prominently 3D CAD and programming single board computers – mainly building scripts in Python – both of which I am really enjoying delving into.
Is there something no one here knows about you (or very few people!) – a quirky fact!
I’m quite into classic games consoles, especially the Nintendo Gameboy series of handhelds from the 90s, and have a bit of an obsession with collecting and repairing them. I’m a bit of a nerd.
When you’re not working what do you enjoy doing / what would be your ideal weekend?
When not in work I enjoy doing the occasional track day, as well as attempting to improve the setup and condition of the car between the events. I do try to ‘eke out’ small improvements wherever I can from one event to the next. Often this drives me to despair one way or another – owning older cars has always seemed to have a knack of doing this to me but I appear to be glutton for punishment and can’t do without it.
