Why install dust probes and sensors?

Combustion Processes:

A QAL1 dust monitor is often required as part of the CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System). It is utilised to monitor the levels of dust or particulate matter emitted to the atmosphere from a combustion process after the abatement plant and is a key tool to prove that the dust collector (typically bag filter, ESP or Cyclone) is operating correctly.

This measurement needs to comply to the same stringent compliance as both the gas and flow monitors; QAL1 & EN15267-3.

There are several different technologies used to measure dust matter and each have their strengths in different applications. A good understanding of the available technologies, coupled with real-life practical experience is invaluable here.

Abatement plants such as bag filters or electrostatic precipitators can be complex with several passes and stages. Multiple dust monitors can be used to measure the performance of these, pin pointing any areas of poor performance or deterioration (e.g. burst bag). These measurement points are classed as process monitors and may not need to be certified to EN15267.

Understanding the application details is key. CEM Solutions UK Ltd can help you through this process and offer the most suitable solution for your plant.

Ambient Dust Monitoring

Ambient Dust monitors are designed for monitoring and recording dust levels throughout your businesses, including handling, production and product storage areas. There are multiple places you can install ambient dust monitors such as clean air ducts, adjacent to production lines and conveyor belts.

Such practices are helpful to ensure that your staff remain safe at work, as dust can be harmful and cause respiratory issues. By using dust monitors in the workplace, you can manage the levels in these areas and can be assured that the environment is safe for your staff to help minimise the risk of injury.
