Upon inspection, our engineers identified that the existing CEMS, while not new, should still have had several years of operational life remaining. However, the system had been allowed to deteriorate significantly. The analyser cabinet, which had been designed for indoor installation, had been installed outdoors and exposed to harsh weather conditions. Furthermore, the rear cabinet door had been left open, resulting in substantial water ingress and damage to the rear of the analyser modules.
Additional issues were identified with the sampling equipment. The stack-mounted sample probes had been removed and left exposed on the access gantry, leading to severe corrosion and rendering them unsuitable for continued service.
Following a thorough assessment, CEM Solutions engineers concluded that refurbishment of the existing equipment would not be economically viable and advised the customer to explore replacement options with our sales team.
This was understandably a difficult discussion for the customer. The existing CEMS represented a significant capital investment and had failed well before reaching its expected service life. Combined with the limited support previously received, this had understandably left the customer with concerns regarding CEMS suppliers and long-term system reliability.
Several months passed following the initial enquiry. However, after a series of productive discussions and a visit to the CEM Solutions stand at the Environmental Services & Solutions (ESS) Exhibition at the NEC, the customer gained confidence in our team’s expertise, support capabilities, and commitment to delivering a long-term solution.
Working closely with the customer and their engineering partner, our project team successfully delivered the system which was installed into a new CEMS container alongside the site’s new stack. The system was designed to provide reliable, compliant emissions monitoring and long-term operational support.
The new installation features a Hot/Wet MCA10 gas analyser, providing continuous monitoring of CO, NOx, SO₂, HCl, TOC, CO₂, H₂O and O₂, together with a certified triboelectric dust monitor and Envirosoft software.
The result is a modern, robust emissions monitoring solution that restores compliance confidence and provides the customer with the support and expertise needed to maintain reliable environmental performance for years to come.
