How CEM Solutions’ MCA10 Analyser Proves Robust in Unpredictable SWIP Conditions

Supply, installation and commissioning of CEMS for SWIP's have been a core sector for CEM Solutions for years.

This device has become a stalwart of the CEM sector, providing the performance of an FTIR analyser with the benefit of the simplicity of NDIR.

We have seen numerous occasions where our CEM system has been installed on plants where commissioning of the wider plant has faced wider challenges and delays. This has resulted in the CEM system having a very turbulent early life with unstable environments (often for months / years).

CEM Solutions’ Service Engineers have recently visited a SWIP in the Midlands where a CEM system was supplied in 2021. The plant ran for a number of months before being mothballed. Re-visiting the site in 2024, we were initially concerned at the site of brown fluid in the air line! Fearing the worst, the analyser was removed to the workshop for a full assessment. O2 sensor aside, the rest of the analyser was in great shape (in no small part to the ‘insurance’ filters fitted internally for the compressed air. The client is facing a small re-commissioning charge with no major components required.

Of course, sometimes proceedings are much smoother and we recently visited a site in Yorkshire that has now been running for several years. The plant has stopped and started but the MCA10 has not required any significant components. We are in the process of commissioning a Raw Gas system and MCA10 CEM on a SWIP in the South of England. With all of our experience we have confidence the CEM will not cause any issues during this period and, if the worst happens and commissioning is delayed by a year or two, the CEM system will be ready to run as soon as the plant is!
