Zirconia O2 Probes are inherently very reliable devices, offering good levels of accuracy and often running satisfactorily for years with minimal maintenance.
This is great on the one hand; however it is important to not become complacent as they are a vital tool for combustion control and even with a small calibration inaccuracy the consequential effect on plant efficiency can be very significant. In the event of instrument failure, it can cause an anxious period whilst a resolution is found.
CEM Solutions have been working with O2 analysers for many years. They were a core product of KAN Developments, a company founded in 1988 and acquired by CEM Solutions in 2021.
As such, our experience with these devices from a wide range of manufacturers is very good and there are very few O2 probes that we are not familiar with. We hold stock of spare consumable parts as well as loan analysers for many of the main manufacturers’ probes, which have proved invaluable on occasion in bridging the gap between a catastrophic failure and arrival of a replacement.
One such instance occurred at the end of 2022.
We were called to an Erf site as there was a discrepancy between the readings on two parallel O2 probes. The engineer made a visual assessment and the first probe was prepared for removal. Unfortunately, upon removal it was found to be so badly corroded it snapped into two pieces.
Left with a single device of the same age (and presumably the same condition) a replacement had to be located asap. We supplied a loan probe which was fitted into a spare port on site – this provided a critical measurement whilst waiting for replacements for the original two probes.
We now service and calibrate these devices annually and have recommended and provided spares to site to mitigate any future risk.
